    Compress HEIC to 5 MB

For upload limits that are generous but still firm. Drop in your iPhone photos and get high-quality JPGs under 5 MB, almost always at full resolution.

    How to use it

Compress HEIC to 5 MB in 3 steps

    1. 1

Drop your HEIC photos above. Large 48 MP shots are welcome.

    2. 2

Each photo is encoded at quality 92, stepping down only if it won't fit under 5 MB.

    3. 3

Download the JPGs, or a ZIP of the whole set, and send them to your print service or portal.

When 5 MB is the rule

A 5 MB cap is a different beast from the tight limits on ID portals. It exists to stop truly massive files, not to make photos tiny. You’ll find it on:

    • Online photo print services that cap each upload
    • Application and grant portals that accept supporting photos
    • Photo competitions asking for high-quality entries
    • Some cloud forms and CRMs used by businesses

Most 12 MP iPhone HEICs would pass on size already, but these services usually want JPG. Convert at very high quality, though, and some photos land just over 5 MB. That’s where this page comes in.

    Built for quality first

We start at quality 92, which is excellent for prints and archiving, and only step down if a photo won’t fit. Dimensions are left alone unless quality has already dropped as far as it sensibly can (about 55), which, at 5 MB, is very rare indeed.

Getting prints that look like your phone screen

    Pixels matter more than megabytes

A print’s sharpness comes from its pixel dimensions. Because this target almost always keeps the full resolution of your photo, you get the most detail your camera captured.

    Ask your lab about colour

iPhones capture in Display P3. We keep that profile embedded, which colour-managed software handles well. Some print labs prefer sRGB files. If yours does, set Colour to sRGB before you drop your photos in.

    Check the crop

Print sizes have their own aspect ratios. If a print shape differs from your photo’s, the lab may crop it. Use Crop HEIC with a preset like 3:2 or 4:3 to choose the framing yourself.

For more on paper sizes and lab settings, see Convert HEIC for printing or our guide on how to print HEIC photos.

    Compared with smaller targets

Target Typical result for a 12 MP photo
1 MB Full or near-full size, good quality
2 MB Full size, high quality
5 MB Full size, very high quality

    Large files, local processing

Big photos mean big uploads elsewhere, but not here. Your device does all the work, so a batch of 48 MP shots costs you no upload time at all. On iPhone and iPad, Safari may scale very large photos to around 16 MP because of its canvas limits.

    FAQ

    Questions, answered

Will my photos lose quality when compressed to 5 MB?

Almost never in a visible way. Most 12 MP photos fit under 5 MB at quality 92 or close to it, and the pixel dimensions stay as shot.

Is 5 MB good enough for printing?

Yes, for typical photo prints. Print quality depends on pixel dimensions far more than file size, and this target keeps full resolution in nearly every case.

Why not just convert to JPG at maximum quality?

At quality 100 a JPG can be much larger than 5 MB for very little visible gain. A target size gives you the best quality that still passes the limit.

Do 48 MP photos fit in 5 MB?

Often, though very detailed ones may need a small quality drop or a slight downscale. The tool tries quality first and resizes only if it must.

Are colours kept accurate for printing?

We embed the Display P3 colour profile from your iPhone in the JPG. If your print lab asks for sRGB files, switch Colour to sRGB before compressing.

    Do you store my photos?

No. They are processed on your device and never uploaded to us. Close the tab and they're gone from the page.
